Trio Sonora was founded in 2010, and is made up of bassoonists from the University of Arizona bassoon studio. The original members were Robert Bedont, Martin VanKlompenberg, and Dr. Fernando Zúñiga. This entertaining ensemble plays an eclectic mix of classical standards and “pop” tunes, and also seeks to commission new works for the genre.
In March 2013 we were invited by Professor Keith McClelland to perform as guest artists at the University of Tennesse, Travis Jones’ Alma Mater (Travis has replaced Dr. Zúñiga in the trio). The recital featured our unique mix of old and new music for bassoon trio. The newest piece was be a world premier performance of Robert McClure‘s Desert Minatures: Insects.
