Robert Bedont is a native of Taylorsville, Utah. He began playing the bassoon at age 12. Before graduating high school Robert became a member of the Granite Junior and Senior Youth Symphony Orchestra’s, and the former Mormon Youth Symphony.
He earned a BM in Music Education from the University of Utah in 2003. At the University of Utah he studied conducting with Scott Hagen and bassoon performance with Richard Chatelain. At the ‘U’ Robert was Drum Major for the “Pride of Utah” for two years. As a bassoonist at the ‘U’, he was principal bassoon for the University Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, as well as winner of the 2000 concerto competition.
Following graduation he taught at Sky View High School in northern Utah. At Sky View he conducted award winning Concert and Marching Bands, and Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Bedont has performed professionally with the Utah Festival Opera Company, the Grand Theatre in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Symphony, Mormon Youth Symphony, AZOOMA, and has soloed with the Utah Philharmonia and the West Valley Symphony.
Robert has a Master’s degree in bassoon performance from the University of Arizona. Currently he is a DMA candidate at the UA studying with Dr. William Dietz. In addition to his studies he served as a graduate teaching assistant, and has played in the Arizona Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, and Trio Sonora. While at Arizona, Robert has been featured on the 2009 Chamber Music Showcase, and the 2012 Stravinsky Festival held at the University of Arizona. Robert also performed at the 2009 Bay View Music Festival.
Robert’s performances have been heard on local radio station KUAT and has held solo recitals in Utah, Arizona, and Michigan.
Robert and his wife Allison have three children – Christopher, Samantha, and Taylor.
