Wonderful Wednesday – Part II

Last week’s Wonderful Wednesday post got such a great reaction. I learned that the managers at the grocery store found out about last weeks post, and congratulated sweet Shellie. I’m glad that she was recognized for her small act of service.

Service Girl

This weekend, Child #2 decided that she was going to be “Service Girl” for the day. She dressed in a nice outfit, and carried around a small notebook while she looked for ways to serve. Every time she found an opportunity for service, she would either do it immediately with a warm, toothless smile, or write it down so she could serve later in the day. She insisted that we all call her Service Girl, and kept asking if there was any way that she could serve us.

Later that night while scarfing down a Fat Boy, she commented about how great she felt. She was SO pleased with her selfless day. I just loved watching my little sweetheart putting her own interests aside, and serve others. But as the day went on I noticed that serving is truly what she wanted to do.

Nice job Service Girl!!!

What does the scripture verse say?
“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” -Mark 8:34-35

My little girl learned what those verses mean in a simple, but profound way.

I'm a husband, father, and brother. I'm a professional musician, teacher, and doctoral student. That sounded like those "I'm a Mormon" commercials. Oh ya, I'm one of those too. I like to cook - it's much cheaper than going to a shrink. I envision this blog as a hodgepodge of all of those things, plus some shenanigans.
